FURNISHING HOPE
ONE HOME AT A TIME

“You will never know how much this means to me as a mother and a woman. To see my kids run around and play and enjoy being at home brings joy to my heart. Last night we all slept amazing in our own beds.”

Dear Supporter,

For this courageous mom and her four children, staying in their previous home was no longer a safe option. Leaving meant facing homelessness, but it also opened the door to a new beginning. With the support of Washtenaw County’s shelter system, they found safe rental housing—and with help from House N2 Home, they turned an empty, generic apartment into a warm, inviting home. With our help, this family now has everything they need: beds to sleep in, a table to gather around, books and toys to play with, and a fully equipped kitchen to prepare meals. For the first time in a long time, they can focus on healing and rebuilding their lives.

This is just one of nearly 400 moves House N2 Home has completed in 2024. Over 800 people—including 400 children and 57 veterans—are no longer sleeping in shelters, in cars, or on cold floors. They now have comfortable, fully furnished homes that provide the stability and dignity everyone deserves.

MAKING A HOUSE A HOME

Fifty local agencies, including SafeHouse Center, Alpha House, and SOS Community Services rely on us to transform empty apartments into unique homes tailored to each family. Does Mom love blue? Do the kids adore superheroes? Is the veteran hoping for a chess set? We listen, and we make it happen. From crock pots to bunk beds, every home reflects the needs and individuality of the people living there.

We couldn’t do this without the incredible generosity of our community. In the spring, we "rescued" the equivalent of six semi-trucks full of furniture and household items during student move-out season at the University of Michigan. By repurposing donations, we keep tens of thousands of items out of landfills while helping families in need. We also gladly accept gently used furniture, household items, and decor year-round, from donors like you and your neighbors, providing a direct way for the community to make a difference.

EXPANDING OUR CAPACITY

Thanks to Trinity Health, we’ve expanded our storage capacity to 40,000 square feet. This allows us to stage moves, refurbish furniture, host caseworker training, and ensure we’re ready to meet demand—even during busy months when resources are stretched thin.

THE NEED IS GROWING

This year, we’re on track to furnish over 400 homes, up from 352 last year. Each of these moves is coordinated ENTIRELY by volunteers; our volunteers already logged 28,000 hours in 2024.

But there are fixed costs, about $500 per move, for essentials like gas and maintenance for our trucks, new mattress encasements - to ensure the cleanliness of our donated mattresses, supplies for furniture and equipment repair, and most importantly funds to pay our “heavy lifters,” who load and unload our trucks. While donations of goods keep costs low, financial support is vital to sustain and grow our impact.

“You and your group are beyond words. What you did for me, is so beyond. I had a great night’s sleep in my new bed and got up early and just sat on my couch looking around and thinking how grateful I am.”

HOW YOU CAN HELP

Your generosity makes all the difference. We have a goal of raising $100,000 during this year-end giving cycle. A $5 gift buys a new shower curtain liner. A $500 donation sponsors an entire move.

Every contribution, big or small, helps transform lives.

Together, we’re creating homes where people can thrive and futures can take root. Help us finish 2024 strong and launch into 2025 with hope and determination. No one makes change alone. Partner with us to be that change.

With gratitude,
